Made in USA
The Made in USA suite of paintings is based on the graphic labels on consumer products that bring attention to the fact that a given product is made in the United States. This project explores the politics of consumption. When an individual or institution acquires one of these paintings it is implied that they support American art, American artists, and by extension the American economy. This is suggested by the self referential text, “Made in USA,” on the canvases. One can interpret the text on these paintings as a patriotic plea to support the American economy or an appeal for American protectionism.
