Orangina, 2007
Digital video on DVD, 3 min, color, silent

Orangina is an abstraction based on the label of the soft drink.  The extraction of color and transformation of the source image are inspirations for the animation.

Orangina is part of the Strip Video series. The Strip Videos are inspired by the films of Stan Brakhage, a filmmaker who started creating abstract films in the 1960's working into the 1990's by manipulating the celluloid directly, often with paint. Enamored with Brakhage's films and process I asked myself what would be the digital equivelent, being that my tools are digital. I arrived at taking a single photograph and stretching it into a strip and panning that strip from top to bottom. This distortion and cropped viewing produces the abstract imagery in the videos.
